In the early morning, Raye and I head to Kobe Airport to fly to Narita and Haneda, respectively. She’ll head out for Atlanta tomorrow afternoon, and I’ll be transferring the rest of my trip to Tokyo.
After meeting with Fuji-sensei and hearing his micro-scale church planting network, also known as house churches, we met with the Tomson’s mutual friend, Sachiko. She and her daughter were great fun in the afternoon, until Peter gave in and took Raye and I to the local recycle shop to hunt for CDs.
We ate dinner together and talked about some great moments on the trip, and where we’d both like to go from here. Afterwards, since he and I love the onsen, we went out together, for Raye could not be convinced. We chatted about future opportunities, and even in the short term, some small team trips that would be for support roles in missionary retreats done here in Kobe and in Nagano. It’s a great way for some of the folks back at church who have an interest in Japan, but no direct experience, like I have.
As exposure trips, it would start cutting through that “romance” stage, and get folks thinking about how church really works here, how they can get involved. I’ve sent some emails back to the “mothership” and we’ll take it from there.
Peter also said he’s email Takeshi-sensei, who’s currently in Tokyo. He and his wife are there on meetings and I might have some time to see them.
I already called Nobuko, and she was ecstatic to hear from me. I think I’ll have little trouble getting to Tachikawa, I just don’t know how long it will take me!
